Masters of Contemporary Dance
As part of Seet Dance's education curriculum, we recreate iconic moments from Contemporary Dance history in Lego.
Careful attention to detail and in depth research about each dance work make these recreations labours of love and serious homages to our heroes of Contemporary Dance.

Pina Bausch created Café Müller in 1978. Bausch was one of the most significant choreographers of our time. She popularized the genre of tanztheater throughout the globe. Her work combined poetic elements with the everyday which caught the imagination of the international arts world and continues to influence dance makers today.

RainForest by Merce Cunningham, 1968. This image is an homage to Merce and Meg Harper who appear in an original photo by James Klosty (1969) of this stunning piece. The iconic stage design, Silver Clouds, was an installation by Andy Warhol. These were helium filled Mylar pillows that floated and bounced around the space during the dance.
A tribute to Doug Elkins' Fräulein Maria which was first performed at Joe's Pub in 2006. Fräulein Maria is a Bessie Award winning loving send-up of The Sound of Music with Elkins himself dancing the part of Mother Superior to the song Climb Ev'ry Mountain. Charemaine performed in this piece as well.
Martha Graham, called "the mother of contemporary dance", in Lamentation (created in 1930) ... from her company came Merce Cunningham and Paul Taylor.

Yvonne Rainer first performed Trio A in 1966 at Judson Memorial Church. This image is inspired by the 1978 B&W film produced by Sally Banes which featured Rainer.

One Flat Thing, reproduced - dance work by William Forsythe, 2000. We reproduced this in Lego as an homage to Forsythe's striking piece created for Ballet Frankfurt. Famous for its 20 tables, it was restaged in April 2017 by Strut Dance in Perth (Western Australia) as part of a 3 year cultural exchange between the Forsythe Foundation and Strut Dance.

Our homage to Trisha Brown's witty Spanish Dance. Our pre-teen students also tried performing their own version of this in 2016 for a community dance event.

Trisha Brown Dance Company has been presenting "wall walk" as part of their Trisha Brown: In Plain Sight site-specific performances. They are reconstructing work from 1979 to 2011. This is our Lego version.
